Innovative Technological Systems is a start up company, spin-off based of the previous R&D project to develop new kind of Stirling engine. The Stirling R&D project was been performed by the following team: Ing Davide Gentile chief engineer; F. lli Laini Srl, machanical desig end prototypes manufacturing, Claudio Fontana, electrical engineer. These professionals are owners of the ITS ENERGY and they ensure its financial background. In 2011 they have spent on R&D expenditure more than 150 000 €. The main mission of the company is to reach the market with their Stirling engines in various field applications and installation and connection of renewable energy plants to the grid (PV systems). Accordingly ITS ENERGY has expanded its activity to consulting, design and manufacture of Stirling engines to be fitted on boilers for use in dwelling units and/or small commercial end-users such as farms, tourist resorts, and others. Their Stirling engines are also available for custom application in industrial and/or public facilities and for solar concentrators or thermal power generation from wood ovens or stoves.

MW Innovation is a well-functioning Swedish innovative SME with a consistent growing turnover. It was established in 2000. Initially, their principal activity was the design and manufactNure of stainless steel heat exchangers. MW is an innovative company with a wide range of activities: recently, they have specialized in development of new and innovative products to overcome deficiencies in traditional heat exchanger systems. They are working with nanotechnic for coating of airplanes, wind turbines and heat exchangers. Besides these, their activities have included fish migration at daws and hyropower units; use of microwaves for deicing and anti-icing of wind turbines, foil development for same purpose. They are committed to technological development and to solving everyday problems of industrial processes in which heat transfer is decisive.

Cooltech GmbH is an expert in refrigeration, designing, installing and manufacturing of industrial quality ice machines, commercial coolers and freezers, refrigeration warehouses, industrial refrigerated buildings, cold storage facilities, and automatic ice systems for the food, chemical and healthcare sectors. Their BinaryIce® can be made from seawater and is widely used in commercial and industrial applications. Since 2008 they have rapidly expanded to the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions, resulting in a wider customer base in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. The dynamical growth in the need for ice machines coupled with a continuing rise in energy prices has made it absolutely necessary to find cost-effective, environmentally-friendly solutions for clients. The rapidly growth in their market expansion reflects to their business results, in 2011 they gained 23% rate of growth in their annual turnover.

NAP

Since its founding in 1979, Naval Architecture Progress (NAP) has been an independent company providing high quality design, engineering and consulting services for companies in the shipping and ship-building businesses. Their current activities include ship design and marine engineering for construction and conversion of ships, ship repair, and installation of marine equipment. They have the adequate financial and human capacity to be involved in international R&D activities. Recently they are participating in another FP7 project, which is already in an advanced stage. Their R&D activities include development of innovative designs used in the maritime industry. NAP is located in Greece in the shipbuilding zone of Piraeus, and they work with clients from Greece, Albania, Croatia, India and South Korea. The range of NAP products includes: drawings, drafting in 2D and 3D, naval architecture calculations, feasibility studies, software for maritime use, consulting, and design development for any type of ship or floating structure.

Redery BvbA Verleene SME was established in 1973. First they built a new small (24 m) fishing boot (Z.402 named “NOOITGEDACHT”) in 2000 and bought a Belgian quota and fishing rights. The company developed dynamically in the last 10 years. Currently they own 1 completely new built fishing boat and the company is related by her shareholders to the other boats (Z468 and Z474) with full equipment and crew. They are fishing in the full North See area, incl. Dutch, German, Danish and English areas. Fresh fish is the goal keeper of its business. Verleene is specialized mainly in fishing of sole, cod, plaice, langoustines, and other target species. They sell fresh fish on the fish auction of Ostende and Zeebrugge. The annual turnover was in 2011 above 800 000 €, the company balance sheet reached the 1 000 000 €, of which 10% was invested for development. Verleene’s development plan for the upcoming years is to improve the cooling system of the fishing boats to ensure better quality of their products.

TWI is a not-for-profit Research & Technology Organisation which is wholly owned by its members. For over fifty years TWI has performed world-class applied research, training, and dissemination activities in all aspects of materials and joining technologies. TWI employs over 600 staff at its laboratories and facilities worldwide, and provides expert support to over 700 industrial members at 3500 sites. In addition, TWI is actively involved in collaborative research and technology transfer projects across its entire technology and industrial sectors.
